ABOUT US
The Institute for Correctional Studies (ICOST) was established to conduct and oversee all educational and training requirements of Maldives Correctional Service. The purposes of ICOST are to provide relevant trainings that help officers and staff in fulfilling their responsibilities and roles efficiently with improved service-quality, and to develop and maintain a workforce that is advanced in knowledge and skills. The Institute operates in accordance with the current international standards and in line with Maldivian culture and traditions and is also the Authority to set standard procedures for maintaining the quality of such training programmes.
ICOST provides basic training for new recruits entering the Maldives Correctional Service, as well as designs and conducts specialized training and educational programmes for existing officers and staff to improve and strengthen their skills in their respective areas of work.
The responsibilities of ICOST include:
(a) Conduct and oversee basic training programme for new recruits aspiring to become prison officers;
(b) Conduct and manage all necessary training programmes to develop and maintain the service quality of officers and staff;
(c) Carry out all necessary tasks to maintain the quality of the training programmes mentioned in points (a) and (b);
(d) Work to maintain the quality and standard of training programmes conducted by various divisions and departments of the Maldives Correctional Service for the advancement of their officers and staff;
(e) Design, conduct and manage training programmes for prison officers tailored to different areas specific to their work
(f) Conduct basic physical fitness tests for prison officers in accordance to common procedures.
